New Jersey Flat Fee MLS Listings have risen consistently for over 10 years as consumers become more aware that they exist. Flat Fee Listings were always legal but were hard to find before the late 1990s. The Federal Trade Commission reminded the National Association of Realtors^® in court in the early 1970s that commissions are not fixed at 6%. As a result, the NAR was required to educate it's members and have it's members educate the public. However, the effort was largely symbolic and even today many consumers still think they have to pay 6% to sell a house. The good news is that many sellers are realizing that commissions can be lower and that there are other options like Flat Fee MLS.
